NordVPN and ExpressVPN both offer paid VPN apps for common desktop and mobile platforms. Their plan bundles and promotional prices change, so the useful comparison is not a single advertised monthly price. It is what is included, what the plan renews at, and whether the product fits your actual use.
Short verdict
- Lean toward NordVPN if its current plan bundle and feature set match what you need and the renewal price is acceptable.
- Lean toward ExpressVPN if you prefer its app experience or the devices and setup options it supports.
- Do not choose on a streaming promise alone: availability varies by platform, region and time, and services can block VPN connections.
This is a documentation-based comparison, not a claim that either service was benchmark-tested across every region or streaming platform.

Price and renewal terms
US pricing snapshot checked October 20, 2026: the official NordVPN page displayed Basic at $94.23 for the first 27 months, renewing at $139.08/year; ExpressVPN displayed Basic at $83.72 for the first 28 months, renewing at $99.95/year. These are country-specific introductory offers before any applicable sales tax, not universal prices. VPN checkout pages can change offers, included extras and renewal terms. Check the full amount due now, term length, renewal amount, taxes, refund rules and add-ons before paying.
Use each provider’s own plan page rather than relying on an old screenshot or a third-party review. Promotions can vary by country, campaign, account status and time of visit.
Privacy and trust
A VPN shifts some trust from the internet provider or local network to the VPN operator. Read the provider's current privacy policy to understand what data it says it collects, why it collects it, how long it retains it and under what conditions it may disclose it. Where an audit is cited, check who performed it, when it was completed, what systems were included and whether the published report is available. An audit does not mean that every app, server and future update has been independently tested.
A VPN also does not make you anonymous when you sign into a personal account, share identifying information or install tracking software. Keep software updated, use multifactor authentication and treat suspicious links as suspicious even while connected to a VPN.
Streaming and everyday use
Both services market VPN features for everyday browsing and may support selected streaming use cases. Still, no provider can guarantee that every catalogue or streaming app will work continuously. Platforms can identify and block VPN endpoints; travelling, account country, licensing restrictions, app version and TV hardware can all affect results. Confirm a provider's current guidance for your exact service, and review the streaming platform's own help documentation before subscribing only for that purpose.
Which one should you choose?
- Compare the full cost: put the upfront charge and renewal charge side by side for the same term.
- Prioritize your devices: confirm support for the operating systems, TVs or router configuration you actually use.
- Check privacy evidence: look for a specific policy and audit scope instead of relying on “no logs” as a slogan.
- Use the refund period carefully: read its conditions and test your own connection early if a refund is available.
If neither service clearly meets your requirements, compare another provider against the same checklist instead of assuming one brand is best for everyone.
